Finding Adult Hosting for Your Spicy Content

I was going through my archives and found an old article I wrote about free blog hosting vs. self hosted blogs. This got me thinking about the various struggles I have had over the years finding a good company to host the websites I created. The problem I’ve run into is the fact that I write erotic fiction stories and thus needed adult hosting.

Web Hosting

I would say the majority of web hosting companies online do not allow adult content on their web servers. Adult websites with porn images and xxx videos generate a lot of traffic which consumes tons of space. A high traffic porn site can make all other sites on the server slow to load or even cause the server itself to crash. No hosting company wants to deal with that so they make sex content providers find adult web site hosting.

Now the majority of pornographic sites online are vastly different than the little dog and pony show I’ve got going on here as well as the average site of an erotica author. They are loaded with pages upon pages of graphic images and videos. Some sites do specialize in erotic fiction stories like my blog except on a much grander scale. Since my blog is small, I could probably get away with hosting it with a regular company. I choose not to because I don’t want to take the chance of having my blog deleted if the web hosting company found out I had erotic content on my blog.

I have had a number of hosts over the years, some good and some bad. I’m currently with WireNine which has been good so far. I pay about $5 per month for their basic plan which gets me 5 GB of space and 50 GB of monthly bandwidth. This is good enough for me since I’m just starting out. As I grow in size, they have other plans that I can upgrade to and still stay under $10 per month.

I’ve also hosted with LunarPages, HostGator, and Naked Hosting. They were all about average. I had Dreamhost once but didn’t like them because of the way they had their back office set up. It may have changed over the years but I wasn’t a big fan.

Small sites with minimal image and video uploads are best served by this type of adult web host. If you are a published erotic author, write erotic stories as a hobby, or are an erotic artist, then the cheap adult hosting provided by these companies will fit your needs just fine.

On the other hand, if you are trying to make money in porn with image, text, and video sites then you need adult hosting that is more robust. The only way to make money in porn is to have multiple sites that span a range of adult categories. This means a whole lot of space and a whole lot of bandwidth. Both of which can be expensive.

The only host I’ve had experience with on this list is Naked Hosting. I didn’t experience any problems while I had an account with them. The only reason I’m not with them now is because WireNine was cheaper and I’m broke. (Hey, help make me not broke by purchasing web hosting through WireNine. My landlord will love you.)

Free Adult Web Site Hosting

There are numerous adult hosting companies that will host your site for free. There are benefits and disadvantages to this type of website hosting. With free hosting, they often advertise on your site which can cut into your affiliate commissions. They also limit the amount of space and bandwidth available to you. If you exceed these limitations, they will take your site down until you either upgrade or bring your site into compliance.

Your website will be hosted on a subdomain of the main site (e.g. yourname.example.com). Free sites also tend to come and go. So it may be there one day and gone the next.

On the other hand, they are free. Therefore, if you are starting out with no money then this may work for you until you get on your feet. Free hosting sites are also great to use for SEO, link building, and funneling traffic to your main sites.

For the adult content provider, getting the most appropriate hosting package for your needs is important. With any web host you consider, be certain to check their terms of service to make sure they allow adult content on their servers. The last thing you want is to have your hard work deleted because you violated the company’s Acceptable Use Policy. If you have any doubts, then just get adult hosting. It’s cheap and you’ll be able to rest easy at night.
