Elements of Fiction: Characters and Viewpoint

This is a book by Orson Scott Card, author of Ender’s Game, Lost Boys, and other Science Fiction/Horror works. I read this book some time ago and I really enjoyed his advice. Characters are the driving force behind a story and it is important that they are properly fleshed out. This is particularly important for erotica writers. I’ve found that well defined characters just makes the sex scenes so much more delicious because you understand what is driving the characters to come together (pun intended). Fiction Books I Love

Night Fire by Catherine Coulter

I used to read romance novels like they were going out of style. I don’t read them as much any more but I do still enjoy a good bodice ripper every now and again. Catherine Coulter was one of my favorite writers and Night Fire was a book I particularly enjoyed. Arielle Leslie was married at the age of 16 to a horrible, horrible man name Paisley Cochrane. He abused her terribly. So it came as no surprise that when he began choking on his food she didn’t lift a finger to help him. He dies. She’s free. Or so she thought. In an attempt to escape her life she runs into Burke Drummond, a young man she had loved previously but who had been shipped off war. Although she wants nothing to do with men, she finds herself at his mercy. Arielle and Burke are two characters that I remember years after having read this book.
